Have You Ever Thought?

Have You Ever Thought?

What have you lost, and what have you found?
What did you lose, and what did you gain in return?

Have you ever thought?
You’ve lost your time; what have you gained instead…
You’ve lost your beauty; what have you put in its place…
You’ve lost your health; for what, and what have you earned in return…
You’ve lost your family; for whom, for what, and what did you obtain in exchange…

You’ve lost your possessions; what have you been storing in your saddlebag instead…
You’ve lost your joy in life; what have you filled its place with…

There is no emptiness in life…
If something leaves, something else instantly takes its place.

If you lose hope, hopelessness takes the throne right away.
If you lose courage, fears wrap around your entire being.
If you lose determination, ambition begins to flow through your veins.
The whole issue is knowing what you are willing to lose…

Have you ever thought?
You’ve lost what you called fame, honor, dignity; which titles have you earned instead…

Have you ever thought about what you’ve lost and what you placed in their stead?
On which path, for what cause, and why you lost all that you did…
What you filled or thought you filled the absence of what you lost with…
If what you gain is greater than what you lose, then what does it matter…
You simply say, “Let what’s gone, go,” and that’s that…

Have you ever thought?
If you truly thought, you’d realize what you’ve lost had little worth in this world…
If only you knew the value not of losing, but of what you lost for

And if what you truly gained with your limited lifetime is greater than what you lost…
Then everything you own — or think you own — is worth losing…
